Siloam Program Expanding to Sydney!
Heart of Life Centre for Spiritual & Pastoral Formation is pleased to announce its expansion of the Siloam Program for the Formation of Spiritual Directors to Sydney. It is actually a return to New South Wales, as Siloam commenced there in 1979 before it found its permanent home in Melbourne in 1983.
In 2023, Heart of Life – a work of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart – will be in its 40th year of operation. Chris McPhee, MSC Australia Provincial, expressed his delight that the Siloam Program will again be training spiritual directors in Sydney.
“Heart of Life and its Siloam Program go to the heart of God’s mission for the MSCs ‘to be on earth the Heart of God”. Over my time in office, I have seen lives changed by this program time and again. Heart of Life’s graduates – numbering more than 1100 – have gone on to support many others in their own spiritual journeys. The fact that Heart of Life is being asked to bring Siloam to Sydney is testament to the reputation of the program and the impact it has had on so many people.”
Heart of Life has seen demand for its programs double in the last few years. Much of this demand has been from people living in the Sydney area. With the capability for online learning, this demand has been met through online and blended classes in more recent times, but as students report, there are real benefits to experiencing this kind of program ‘in the room’. This is particularly true for the Siloam Program – a highly-acclaimed, experiential spiritual direction program, which will begin in Sydney in February 2023.
The Sydney program is available part-time over two years in a blended mode – in-person and via Zoom. Sessions are held on Mondays, 8.45am-4.30pm AEST. Heart of Life’s connection with the University of Divinity and Yarra Theological Union enables students who meet the relevant criteria, to undertake Siloam as a Graduate Diploma in Spiritual Direction awarded by the University of Divinity. Fee-Help is available for Tuition fees to qualifying Australian citizens.
The Siloam learning process entails a discerning, contemplative approach to personal and spiritual growth. It is open to women and men of varying faith and cultural traditions, who are drawn to listen deeply to their own hearts and the hearts of others, and seek to discern whether they may be called to the ministry of spiritual direction. The program offers participants a combination of seminars and supervised practice, enabling them to become competent and experienced spiritual directors.
A Taster Session via Zoom will be held on Saturday 27 August 2022 at 9.30am-11am AEST, providing the opportunity to learn more about Siloam – click here for further information.
