The Heart of Life community gathered together to celebrate the feast of the Sacred Heart today at Kewn Kreestha in Croydon. We celebrated Mass in our newly renovated space, led by Fr Dominic Gleeson MSC (Siloam, 2011), whose homily called us to love, long after the fact, just as Jesus shows us. While we may theologize differently, the call for all humanity really, is to love with our whole selves, so that love might continue and be shared well beyond our reach. In this way, the ministry of spiritual and pastoral formation through Heart of Life, and significantly, the celebration of 45 years of Siloam, is an example of this. Dom invited all to partake of the Eucharist personally – to behold it – so as to recognise the essence of Jesus with us.

Br Barry Smith MSC who has been working with the Heart of Life team since the beginning of the year, offered three branches from the various MSC properties in Melbourne (Kew, Blackburn and Croydon) with which to bless the centre, symbolic of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart’s spirit and commitment to the work of Heart of Life. All were invited to go around the property with the branches and holy water, to contribute our blessing. Especially touching was the presence of Family Care Sisters, Jill Harding & Michele Toussaint whose history we now share as the new custodians of Kewn Kreestha.

New connections were made and old ones rekindled over a festive lunch. And Clare Shearman honoured Peter Malone MSC as the newest inductee to the ‘Heart of Life Hall of Fame’.

With many thanks to all who have supported us in the move, in the renovations and in prayer for the new transition. May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be everywhere loved.
